“The Sound of typing is the new applause.” – Michael Palko (@mpalko)
Two years ago I moderated the #HPM Hospice and Palliative Medicine Tweet Chat. The visual transcript below gives us a clear indication how far we have come in such a short period of time health care and social media. It’s also clear that the community clearly knew the benefits of tweeting during a Health Care and Social Media conference.
Now as more and more conference planners are choosing to LIVE stream and are registering their hashtags we are able to see the benefits. I’ve had a number of people literally from all over the world tweet that they are planning on attending the conference next year after seeing the tweets streaming in from the conference hashtag. When I see tweets sharing quotes, pictures and other information from a conference I know I think to myself: “I’ll be there next year!”
I also trust the opinion of my friends and colleagues more than any other source when determining which conference I will attend. It’s now easy to track the number of impressions that are being made during a #HCSM conference when the hashtag has been registered with Symplur.
Colin Hung is now participating in #HIMSS13 this week so we thought it would be a great time to cover the topic of tweeting during a health care social media conference. The #HIMSS13 conference has done a great job to ensure a great tweeting experience for both those attending and those who are watching the Live stream.
Tweeting during a conference can be a powerful demonstration of leadership and professionalism. While conference tweeting is clearly evolving, we thought it would be valuable to gather our thoughts regarding what we consider best practice conference tweeting.
