Blog post by Colin Hung
This is a holiday week for our friends in the US. Thursday is Thanksgiving – a day for celebrating with family and giving thanks for the bounty of the year. Because of this I thought we would go with a lighter topic this week on #hcldr – Payment Reform!
Just kidding. We’ll save that topic for another week (thanks to Sean Erreger aka @StuckonSW for the suggestion!). Instead, I thought we would channel the spirit of Thanksgiving and discuss our own #hcldr community.
There aren’t enough words to describe how thankful, grateful and humbled I am for this wonderful community. #hcldr has literally changed my life. Through #hcldr I have gained a new appreciation for healthcare – how complex and nuanced it really is. Social Determinants of Health (#sdoh), behavioral health, music+healthcare, population health and patient- & family- centered care are all topics I have learned about through #hcldr. For that I am thankful.
I have also met so many fantastic and brilliant people through #hcldr. At every tradeshow and conference I get the chance to meet friends in-real-life (IRL) that I have gotten to know through the community. #hcldr has changed how I approach these types of events. Of course if it weren’t for #hcldr I would not have met Joe Babaian (@JoeBabaian) and Bernadette Keefe (@nxtstop1) our community co-hosts. I look forward to hearing about how #hcldr has impacted you – professionally and personally.
I can’t imagine what it would be like without #hcldr. Having said that, I think that it would be naïve to believe this can last forever. People, technology and times change. Those that don’t change with it risk becoming irrelevant. I am not suggesting we move away from Twitter, which is the foundation of our community, but I am curious to know what all of you think might be ways we could expand/evolve the community.
Over the years we have tossed around the idea of doing an #hcldr conference (too expensive and there are already so many healthcare conferences), doing a virtual conference, adding a LinkedIn component and organizing meetups at various conferences. Through feedback from the community we have begun recapping our weekly chats (via Storify), we have increased the number of featured guests and we have widened the range of topics we discuss. Your feedback is instrumental to our future growth.
Join us Tuesday November 24th 2015 at 8:30pm ET (for your local time click here) when we will discuss the following topics together:
- T1 From a healthcare perspective, what are you most thankful for this past year? (personal health or industry development)
- T2 When you think about the #hcldr community, what are thankful for? What impact has #hcldr had on you personally/professionally?
- T3 What other online formats or in-person events would you like to see from #hcldr?
- T4 In the next year what would you like to see #hcldr start doing/stop doing?
