Making the Difference

st

I had a wonky and interesting blog for this week all planned. You know, when your writing/ideas flow, things click, and you just can’t wait to share with your community of peers. The best-laid plans of mice and men…..

@Colin_Hung and I often chat about what really matters in Healthcare and what is being done to address those issues. We reflect on the rich #hcldr community (to which I am ever grateful for their support, knowledge, passion, and action) and are able to see shining examples of care + skill + passion in action, making differences, large and small, every day.

I made one small tweet a few days ago:

Untitled picture

It generated a response that I never anticipated! Fairly innocuous and it speaks for itself. Old connections, new connections and everyone in between took a moment, paused, and thought about what the image was saying. Watching these two walk into the future, together, is a metaphor for the future of healthcare. The future isn’t about me or you, it’s about us, people together. What’s your thought?

When I saw this next little image from @DrMikeAtwater, I knew I would put aside what I wrote for today and shift gears, with your indulgence.

quote @drmikeatwater

#hcldr brings out the best in so many. This week, I want to take a look at the smaller, quiet things that we can do, we should do, to make a difference. As is often the case, these small things turn into awesome huge things in time and that is as it should be! These small steps being the value of real Healthcare to new populations, people in need, workaday folks, and everyone in between. Without belaboring platitudes, let’s take a look at how all of our skills can matter, one step at time.

Let’s consider where we are and where we need to be as well as the implications along with the #hcldr community of professionals, patients, clinicians, administrators, lurkers, counselors, social workers, designers, and advocates! Please join us on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 8:30pm Eastern (for your local time click here) as we discuss the following topics:

  • T1: What small steps in Healthcare make the biggest difference? Examples?
  • T2: Can large shifts in Healthcare be realistically started with small ideas/efforts that are put into action?
  • T3: Does the softer side of Healthcare translate into real innovation and difference for large populations?
  • T4: Based on your professional & personal experiences, what advice do you have for organizations & individuals for connecting the dots in Healthcare?
