Thankful for…[insert answer here]…

It’s Thanksgiving week in the US – time for turkey, football, family and friends.

As is tradition on HCLDR, we are helping to celebrate this holiday by having our annual chat where we say “Thanks” and reflect on the past year. Given that we are nearing the end of a decade, I thought it would be fun to ask the HCLDR community to look back over the past 10 years in healthcare to find people, technologies and events that we are thankful for.

Just to provide some context, here are some of the events that happened at the start of the decade (2010):

From a healthcare perspective I can’t think of a more momentous event that the Meaningful Use program. It changed the Health IT landscape forever and I’m convinced I would not still be in healthcare if it weren’t for this program. So despite the stress and frustration it has caused, I, for one, am grateful for it. So thank you CMS for creating this program which in turn created the EHR giants we have today, which has lead to a whole bunch of challenges (ahem I mean opportunities) in Health IT.

I’m also grateful to #hcsm and #hcsmca. When I first got started with Twitter in 2010, it was these two twitter chats that introduced me to the wonderful world of healthcare social media. Through #hcsm I met Regina Holliday, David Harlow, John Lynn, Mandi Bishop, Janice Macallum, Jane Kahn, Wen Dombrowski, Rasu Shrestha and countless others. Through #hcsmca I have gotten to know Colleen Young, Pat Rich, Annette McKinnon, Natrice Reese, Isabel Jordan, Paul Gill and again, countless others. I am eternally thankful that these two communities existed when I first became active on Twitter.

As you look back over the past decade, what stands out from a healthcare perspective? What (or who) are you most thankful for? Is there anything you would like to express gratitude for?

Join the HCLDR community for the next weekly chat on Tuesday November 26th at 8:30pm ET (for your local time click here). We will be discussing the following topics:

  • T1 As you look back over the past 10 years in healthcare, what stands out? Why?
  • T2 What healthcare technology or development over the past 10 years are you most thankful for?
  • T3 Share some of the creative ways you have said thank you or expressed gratitude.
  • T4 Time for shout-outs. Who would you like to acknowledge or say thank you to?

Happy Thanksgiving!
